Vieussan in the Evening

Garden at Vieussan

Andrew Walker

Andrew was born in Aberdeen in 1959. He was educated at Edinburgh College of Art.

“I spend most of my working time painting “in plain air” at home in the Scottish Borders or in the Languedoc region of Southern France. The expressive quality of colour is what I’m looking for. I like to use strong colours to create a certain vividness and pitch.

I am always on the look-out for subjects, a newly ploughed clay field or perhaps or some straw bales on a hill side with long evening shadows. The great thing about landscape is that it is always changing, so I can return to a subject again and again and always find something different.

The Mediterranean of course is perfect for me, the light, the colour, the abundance of nature. I have been going to the same hillside for up to three months at a time and still there is a lot to do.

Andrew has participated in many solo and group exhibitions nationally. His work can also be seen in public collections throughout the Scottish region.
