“My work is inspired by the open, mountainous landscape of the area of Carmarthenshire in which I live.”

 Nigel uses soft pastels as an empathic medium for the subject. He works directly from life and trying to capture the rapidly changing skies is a difficult task, he therefore finds pastels very immediate.

 Nigel makes all the pastels at home with artistic quality pigments. This then gives him the array of colours which he can subtly control.

 The support is a purpose made pastel board with a granular surface; this enables him to build up a comparatively dense layer of colour.
