Charles Westgarth
was born in London in 1977, later moving to
Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire where he now works.
Charles attained a first class degree in model
design, going on to work as a model maker for a special effects
company. He was involved with various film and television projects,
spanning a range of disciplines. Throughout this period he continued
to develop his skills as a practitioner. This work would then
contribute to his long-term plans to travel, culminating in a 6
month tour of South East Asia and Australia. On
returning to the U.K. Charles opened his Hertfordshire studio and
began personal and commissioned work.
However, his most recent works, inspired by dance and movement,
although more abstract in approach the passion and emotion is still
very much in evidence. With the use of simple lines and facets he
has created a new series of bronze pieces in recognition of the
similarities and parallels in the swift and balletic dynamics of
birds with that of the movement and energy created in dance. The
marriage of the two forms in their exaggerated state adds emphasis
to their weightless energy complimenting each other and echoing a
strong sense of grace, elegance and dynamism that is shared by both
bird and dancer.
